Village of Kandovan is located on 60 km southwest of Tabriz, in the province of Azarbaijan, Iran. It is famous for spectacular and unique architecture and its mineral water which is used to dissolve the bladder stone. The landscape of this picturesque village is made by volcanic activities.
The inhabitants carve their houses out of the huge rocks; they carved kitchen, hall, and room out of stone and made windows for the rooms and decorated them with colorful glasses. It is said the initial habitants moved to this village due to the Mongol invasion and decided to hide in the caves and later on turn them into their permanent house. People's main occupations are agriculture and animal husbandry.
